Back on July 13th we discussed the latest trends in how homeowners use their garages. Now that we’re well into 2017, we see these trends continuing to grow. Once considered covered space for autos and paraphernalia not stored inside, garages extend the family’s living space. Between storage, hobbies and activities…even entertainment…a well organized garage is a necessity.

Cabinet options are exploding and customizing your garage space not only enhances its appearance; it makes your personal items easier and safer to keep.

Safe Garage Storage Prevents Unintended Consequences

The range of items stored by homeowners in their garages encompasses everything from kid’s toys to chemicals. Keeping dangerous items out of reach of children insures your peace of mind when the kids are out of sight.

Paint, especially that in spray cans, needs to be secured along with things like weed killers and cleaning agents. For the handyman, tools such as saws and anything with moving parts should be secured.

Think about the needs of each family member. Kids need room for toys. The athletes in the family need a place to store equipment. The “decorators” in your family have varying requirements for space depending on the season and how often they entertain.  Maybe your family has a budding musician, a fisherman, or a hobbyist who restores cars.

Life’s much easier when everyone has accessible and adequate storage for their treasures.

Let Your Garage Cabinets Help You Keep Peace At Home

Whether you use closed cabinets, shelves, or a combination of both, maximizing efficiency prevents conflict and saves time. Since toys have many shapes and pieces, the best arrangement may be shelves big enough to hold storage tubs.

Tools and chemicals need to be higher and secured with locks. Another thing to consider is storage with pegboard for tools that can be hung on a hook, keeping them visible and easy to reach.

Closets tall enough to hang suits and dresses and/or shoe racks ease storage needs for off-season clothing. Hooks for garden tools keep them separate and shelves for boxes big enough to hold Christmas trees and lighting all figure into the equation.

We stay on top of what kind of cabinets and shelves work best for each individual home. We’ll work with you to build storage that best fits everyone’s needs, yet versatile enough to change as the family grows.
