Cabinet door styles that buck the trend

In “Cabinet Doors – Today’s best look and Fit” we discussed three types of cabinet doors. The current trend is towards Full Overlay, or Euro-style doors, for their simple, clean appearance and storage efficiency. Check any home design web site and you’ll find lots of rooms remodeled with Shaker cabinets – a popular design this year. But suppose you don’t like the style? Of don’t follow the crowd? That’s easy. Consider the following options to create your signature design. Four ways to add texture. Louvered doors - wood slats typically used on windows, furniture pieces, and interior doors, create a distinct architectural looks that differentiates kitchens, baths, garages, and laundry rooms. Spacing the slats allows ventilation that works well for cabinets hiding clothes dryer, cable boxes, and other electronics.  Drawbacks include a heavy price tag and uneven surfaces. These contours require more care to keep clean and aren’t the best fit for homeowners wanting less maintenance. If you dream about an antique style kitchen, Distressed doors, like those with the corners rubbed off, provide that comfortable, lived–in feeling. There are other distressing techniques you can choose any door style for your personal look. Just remember- this extra work gets costly. Generally, there’s a 15 to 20 percent up-charge for a tradesperson to create what you want. For those who love the cottage style, Beadboard’s center panel is proven to be timeless… Traditionally, beadboard was used as a decorative wall treatment before plaster, drywall and paint became popular. Currently not considered a trend, the style’s lasted for ages.  Usually painted in a shade of white…just beware… all those little cracks...

Make the Most Out of Your Garage Cabinets

Back on July 13th we discussed the latest trends in how homeowners use their garages. Now that we’re well into 2017, we see these trends continuing to grow. Once considered covered space for autos and paraphernalia not stored inside, garages extend the family’s living space. Between storage, hobbies and activities…even entertainment…a well organized garage is a necessity. Cabinet options are exploding and customizing your garage space not only enhances its appearance; it makes your personal items easier and safer to keep. Safe Garage Storage Prevents Unintended Consequences The range of items stored by homeowners in their garages encompasses everything from kid’s toys to chemicals. Keeping dangerous items out of reach of children insures your peace of mind when the kids are out of sight. Paint, especially that in spray cans, needs to be secured along with things like weed killers and cleaning agents. For the handyman, tools such as saws and anything with moving parts should be secured. Think about the needs of each family member. Kids need room for toys. The athletes in the family need a place to store equipment. The “decorators” in your family have varying requirements for space depending on the season and how often they entertain.  Maybe your family has a budding musician, a fisherman, or a hobbyist who restores cars. Life’s much easier when everyone has accessible and adequate storage for their treasures. Let Your Garage Cabinets Help You Keep Peace At Home Whether you use closed cabinets, shelves, or a combination of both, maximizing efficiency prevents conflict and saves time. Since toys have many shapes and pieces, the best arrangement may be...

Savvy and Smart Strategies!

Savvy and Smart Strategies!

Wise up! Savvy and Smart Strategies for an Arizona Home Remodel According to the Home Improvement Research Institute, homeowners spend more money on kitchen remodeling than on any other home improvement project, with good reason. Kitchens are the very center of home life, and a source of pride when it comes to the subject of a successful past remodeling project. A liberal amount of kitchen remodeling cost may be recovered by the intrinsic value that the project brings to your home. Kitchen remodel projects in the $50,000 to $60,000 range regain about 69% of the initial project cost at the home’s resale, according to recent data from Remodeling Magazine’s Cost vs. Value Report. To ensure that you maximize the eventual return of investment from your Arizona kitchen remodel, follow these smart kitchen remodeling strategies. Establish priorities We recommend spending a considerable amount of time planning your kitchen remodeling project. That way, you won’t be tempted to change your mind during construction, change orders, and haplessly inflate construction costs. Here are some points of note to cover: Cooking traffic patterns: A walkway through the kitchen should be at least three feet wide. Aisles should be a minimum of about 3.5 to 4 feet wide and at least 4 feet wide for households with multiple cooks. Child safety: Avoid square corners on countertops, and make sure microwave ovens are installed at a proper height, which is three inches below the shoulder of the primary user but not more than 54 inches from the floor. Outside access: If you want easy access to entertaining areas, such as a deck or patio, factor...
